Today Moab re-opened for business after having been closed due to COVID-19 and tourists are already flocking to the area, just in time to catch the desert wildflowers starting to bloom. I’ve seen globemallow, primrose, huge bunches of paintbrush, fish hook cactus and claret cup blooming and just this morning we saw our first prince’s plume. I don’t expect a super bloom like last year but we’ve had enough moisture this spring to produce some fantastic wildflower displays.
Those planning to visit need to be aware that this is a “soft” opening, which means hotels and restaurants are operating at limited capacity and, perhaps most importantly, camping is still prohibited for everyone but Grand County residents. Dead Horse Point State Park is open but Arches and Canyonlands National Parks remain closed with no anticipated opening date. The Southeast Utah Health Department maintains a website with the most current information about Moab’s status. I recommend that you bookmark it and refer to it when necessary > Southeast Utah COVID-19 Updates
Now’s a great time to pick up a copy of one of my ebooks to start planning your desert escape. With coverage of Arches, Big Bend and Zion National Parks, there’s an ebook to satisfy almost any desert craving! Plus, you’ll be helping to support a Moab small business and whose karma bank doesn’t need a deposit? The ebooks are only $15/each or you can purchase all three for only $40, saving yourself five bucks in the process. I hope you’ll consider purchasing one to help my business stay afloat during the coronavirus crisis.
